What we do
Renu established RGK Modern Indian Dance Academy in 2004, becoming a prominent advocate for dynamic Bollywood-inspired dance classes, encompassing Folk, Contemporary, Semi-Classical, and Modern Indian dance forms. Renowned for its versatile artists and diverse repertoire, the academy seamlessly merges modern dance with Indian classical Kathak, Bharatnatyam, Folk, and Western styles like Salsa, hip-hop. Since its inception, the academy has impacted 2000+ students, presenting 96 innovative productions locally and internationally, including Ninteen annual musical Bollywood dance-dramas in Minnesota.
With a team of dedicated volunteers, Renu spearheads the creation, choreography, direction, and design of these shows, showcasing the transformative power of art. Beyond performances, RGK Dance Academy fosters a vibrant community committed to dance, diversity, and inclusivity, producing shows that reflect multicultural experiences and cross-cultural connections.
At RGK, Renu celebrates youth, making learning enjoyable by involving students in creating art inspired by Indian culture. Beyond Bollywood dancing, the academy provides opportunities for students to engage in theater arts, earning critical acclaim at festivals like the Fringe Festival in Minnesota. Renu’s passion for teaching children about Indian culture through dance and art underscores her belief in providing every child with respect, love, food, and education.
The academy goes beyond entertainment, empowering women and children through Bollywood-inspired dance classes and yoga exercises. Productions like “Cauvery,” “Celebration of Life,” and “Cocoon” tackle real-life issues, encouraging participants to express their stories on stage. Additionally, RGK Dance Academy organizes annual charity shows, supporting various local and international organizations and promoting awareness of Indian dance and culture throughout Minnesota.
